UNIDO and LibanPack will be organizing  Arab Student StarPack competition  addressed to university students in the Arab Countries. 
UNIDO is organizing Arab StarPack as part of its mission in ensuring an inclusive and sustainable development through industrial development by involving the youth and providing them with an invaluable opportunity to unleash their creativity and upgrade the packaging of their national products.
LibanPack has been organizing Lebanon Student StarPack, the first packaging contest in Lebanon and the Middle East since 2010. The competition falls within the packaging awareness side of LibanPack’ objective. Through Arab Student StarPack, LibanPack and UNIDO will be creating a bridge between the young generation of future graphic designers, industrial and food engineers and industrialists. 
The competition is accredited by WPO*. Winners will automatically be qualified to participate in World Star competition organized by WPO, granting winning projects international visibility.

PACKAGING

CATEGORY
Suggesting new or improved visual design/artwork of an existing package. In this category, student has to improve the branding identity of the product.
STRUCTURAL
PACKAGING

CATEGORY
Suggesting new or improved structural packaging design (new mold/ new die cut) of an existing package. The student can even suggest changing the existing packaging material proposing a new sustainable material.
SAVE
THE FOOD

CATEGORY
This category falls under the structural category but is dedicated to food and agricultural products. It involves offering a new smart or intelligent packaging, to improve the supply of food to a growing global population and to prevent its waste and if possible the extension of shelf life of perishable products.
RULES
  • The Competition is addressed to University students currently enrolled in B.A or M.A Programs and is not addressed to professionals.
  • The Nationality of the student and the selected product should be the same.
  • Students can choose to work on primary, secondary or tertiary packaging.
  • Participants can register for more than one entry and submit several applications.
  • Students can choose to work on a product that does not exist before on the condition that the product can easily be produced in his country
  • With the exception of cigarettes and other tobacco products, the contest will accept all sorts of products such as: food, agriculture produce, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, or other industrial products such as shoes or clothes.
  • An application is linked to one student only: Two students cannot collaborate and submit one application. It is not a group work project. However, two students can collaborate to present two categories for the same product; one student for visual category and the other student for the structural category.
  • All the applications have to be endorsed by the university of the participating student in case the competition was adopted as a class project.
  • UNIDO and LibanPack have unlimited rights to use all artwork submitted by the students to promote the competition and the award ceremony.
  • With the exception of the rights outlined in above point, entrants should make their own arrangements to ensure that their intellectual property rights are fully protected.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
The competition will be organized on an Arab Regional level and will be launched in all Arab Countries.
More than 2000 Arab students from 22 Arab countries are expected to participate in the competition of Arab Student StarPack.

WHY PARTICIPATE
Award Ceremony
The award ceremony for Arab StarPack 2019 will take place in June 2019 in a certain Arab country that will be defined later. The ceremony will be organized under the patronage of the high level representative of the selected country. During the ceremony, winners will be announced. Winners will be selected per country who will then compete for the Pan Arab Award.

The award ceremony will be followed by the inauguration of students’ projects exhibition. Ministers, ambassadors, leading professionals of the food and packaging industry, representatives of private and public sector associations, non-governmental organizations, academia, and students will be attending the event.

What is Arab Star Pack Competition ?
Arab StarPack Competition is the first regional packaging competition in the Arab World addressed to Arab university students.
Why should I participate in Arab StarPack ?
By participating at Arab StarPack,  you will have the opportunity to be recognized regionally. In addition to the experience, visibility, prizes gained, winners will be automatically qualified to participate in WorldStar competition organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO), granting winning projects international visibility as well.
Can I apply if I am freelancer or graduate student?
The competition is addressed only for Arab University Students currently enrolled in the faculties of Graphic Design, Product Design, Packaging, Industrial Engineering, Food Engineering or other related studies. Therefore graduate or professional designers can not participate in this competition.
How do I apply to the competition?
You should access Arab StarPack Website www.arabstarpack.org and submit your application online. Applications cannot be sent by emails or through other channels. Only online application will be qualified to the competition.
What are the categories of Arab StarPack?
There are 4 categories: Visual Category, Structural Category, Smart Packaging Waste Category and Save the Food Category. 
Can I work on the four categories?
You may work on the four categories through different applications. A student is eligible to submit several applications to several categories.
Can you give more information on the Save the food Category?
It is a new category suggested by the WPO (World Packaging Organization). Save the food category falls under the structural category and it has a similar judging criterion. However under this category students should select food or agricultural products only whereas in the structural category they may choose any products such as cosmetics or any other industrial product. Furthermore, in this category students should work on suggesting packaging that save the food and prevent its waste or even extend the shelf life of the product.
Can we work as a group and apply for the competition in one application?
An application is linked to one student only: Two students or more cannot collaborate and submit one application. It is not a group work project. However, two students can collaborate to present 2 applications for two categories for the same product; for example one student can apply for the visual category and the other student can submit a different application for the structural category or the food safety category of the same selected product.
Can I Choose to work on an international product (like Coca Cola, Lindt, Persil...)?
The Nationality of the student and the selected product should be the same. Students should select their national products to work on their packaging. For example Egyptian students should work on products made or can be made in Egypt. Applications linked to foreign/international brands will be dismissed from the competition.
If my Nationality does not match the country that I live in, what is the product's Nationality that should be selected?
Foreign students living in specific countries should select products from their resident country (for example, Syrian or Palestinian students living in Lebanon should select Lebanese products).
Do I need to prepare Mock up?
All participating students should prepare a mock up for their projects that will be exhibited in the award ceremony. Organizers will handle and cover the shipment of the mock-ups in cooperation with the universities.
Can LibanPack support the students in the implementation of the mock-ups?
Unfortunately the organizers cannot support the students in the implementation of the mock-ups to avoid any direct contact with individual students. Therefore students are responsible for the implementation of the mock up. However the organizers can refer the professors or the students to some companies or printing houses in their countries that support them in the implementation of the mockups.
When is the deadline for the online application?
The deadline is on Monday 30 March 2020 at 5:00 pm.
How I will know that my application is completed?
After completing and submitting your online application an email confirmation from the competition will be sent to your email mentioned in your application to inform you that your application has been success-fully submitted to Arab StarPack .
Can I edit my application after submitting it online?
You should check your application carefully before submitting it. You may not edit or delete your application once it is submitted online.
When the winners will be announced?
Winners will be announced during the Award Ceremony. However, the organizers will contact winners to arrange their travel and participation in the award ceremony. (Only for the students that are not residents in the country that will host the award ceremony, other students will be informed during the ceremony)
